BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University Owls captured two wins on Saturday with strong defense prevailing in game one, a 5-4 victory over North Carolina, and then scoring in the final frame to record a 4-3 win over Boston College.
The Owls move to 8-6 on the young season and will host North Carolina at 9 a.m. Sunday with Villanova and Boston College.
GAME ONE
Both teams scored in the first. UNC took a 4-1 lead into the fourth when the Owls grabbed their first lead of the game at 5-4, following a strong four-run fourth. The Tar Heels threatened in the top-half of the seventh with a single to right. The UNC runner moved up a base on a sac bunt, however FAU’s Ainsley Lambert then got UNC to ground out to second and with the runner on third, FAU closed out the game squeezing an infield popup for the win.
NOTES/NOTABLES
- Cammeo Presutti was 2-for-4 in the leadoff spot with a run scored
- Olivia Peterson had a double and drove in a run, while Caryssa Orland was 1-for-1 with a double and two RBI
- Lynn Gardner drew the start, tossing two innings of work
- Lambert threw the final five innings of scoreless softball and moved to 2-1 on the year with the win
GAME TWO
FAU scored the first runs of the game, plating three in the bottom of the fourth. BC then responded by scoring two in the fifth. The Owls remained one run up on the Eagles until the top of the seventh when the Eagles scored the game-tying run at 3-3.
Sommer Baker led off the inning with a triple to dead center. The Owls go-to good luck charm made it happen again by lining a ball to shallow center. With the runner tagging on the play and the need for a good through, BC’s centerfielder dropped the ball allowing Baker to slide home for the game-winning run.
NOTES/NOTABLES
- The Owls had five hits in the game all by different players
- Gabby Sacco pitched a gem scattering seven hits, three runs, of which only one was earned. She walked just one and struck out four
