Florida Finishes the Indoor Regular Season with Eight Event Titles

16 Gators finished on the podium at the Florida University Last Chance Meet

GAINESVILLE, FL. – On Thursday, the Gators finished their indoor regular season at the Florida University Last Chance Meet at the Jimmy Carnes Indoor Track & Field. The Gators finished out the regular season strong with 52 new personal bests during the indoor regular season.

Florida won event titles in the men’s long jump (Jalen Chance), men’s shot put (Logan Montgomery), women’s shot put (Alida Van Daalen), women’s 60m hurdles (Imani Carothers), women’s 60m (Grace Stark), men’s 800m (Eoin McNally), men’s mile (Reed Legg), and men’s 3000m (Cavan Wilson). In addition to the eight event titles, eight other Gators finished on the podium.

Freshman Alida Van Daalen had another one for the history books, finishing the shot put competition with the third-best mark in school history (17.80m/58’4.75). The mark is also a Jimmy Carnes Indoor Track facility record and the sixth best mark in the country this season.

Next up, the Gators travel to Arkansas for the final time this season to compete in the SEC Indoor Championship on February 24th and 25th.

Thursday’s Finals Recap

Long Jump

Men- In the first event of the day, Jalen Chance took first with a mark of 7.37m/24’2.25″. His jump was 0.24m farther than the runner-up William Jones. Jordan McCants finished fourth and jumped a new personal best (7.04m/23’0.25″).

Shot Put

Men- Logan Montgomery (17.37m/57′) and Calvin Bostic (16.34m/53’7.5″) take first and second respectively, in the men’s shot put. Montgomery’s mark set a new Jimmy Carnes Indoor Track facility record.

Women- For the second straight competition, freshman Alida Van Daalen has left her mark on the school record books. After throwing the sixth-best mark in school history last week at the Tyson Invitational, she followed it up today by besting that record with the third best mark in school history. Her mark of 17.80m/58’4.75″ today won the event, was a facility record, and the sixth best mark in the nation this year. Da’Moni Kelly also competed, finishing fourth (14.73m/48’4″).

60m Hurdles

Women- In yet another event, the Gators took the top two spots. In this final meet, Imani Carothers (8.18) finished first with a new Jimmy Carnes Indoor Track facility record and Jayla Hollis (8.20) finished a strong second place.

60m

Men- In his second competition as a Gator, Kevar Williams made it through prelims to take third in the event (6.86). This is Williams first podium finish as a Gator.

Women- In her first race of the season, Grace Stark finished first with a time of 7.38 in the 60m. Tymiah Montgomery finished sixth (7.80).

800m

Men- Eoin McNally, in his first race of the indoor season, took first in the men’s 800m (1:53.07). McNally was near the front of the heat for the entire race with a final push in the last 200m to move past Jacob Fritz of Embry-Riddle and Alex Guy of Florida Southern to take first place in the event.

Mile

Men- The top two finishers in the men’s mile were Gators as Reed Legg (4:09.41) and Ryan Miller (4:18.15). Legg placed first and Miller second with his new personal best in the mile.

Women- Emily Culley finished second in the women’s mile (4:49.83), finishing runner up to teammate Kathryn Nohilly (4:46.70) who competed unattached.

3000m

Men- In the men’s 3000m, the Gators swept the top-4. Cavan Wilson (8:16.06), Aiden Villasuso (8:30.41), Josh Stern (8:34.88), and Orlando Cicilioni (8:35.22) finished first through fourth respectively. Wilson and Cicilioni both recorded personal best times.

Women- Freshman Annie Loehle was the lone Gator in the women’s 3000m race. In her collegiate track debut, Loehle finished third (10:46.11).
