JADEN IVEY AND JALEN DUREN SELECTED TO PLAY IN 2023 NBA RISING STARS GAME

DETROIT – Jan. 31, 2023 – Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey and center Jalen Duren were selected to play in the 2023 Jordan Rising Stars game at NBA All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City, Utah, the league announced today.  The game will take place on Friday, February 17, at 9 p.m. ET on TNT.

The pool of 28 players for the Jordan Rising Stars consists of 11 first-year NBA players, 10 second-year NBA players and seven players from the NBA G League. The competition will consist of three teams of seven NBA players and one team of seven NBA G League players, who were selected by the NBA league office. The two semifinal games will be played to a Final Target Score of 40 and the final game, featuring the winners, will be played to a final Target Score of 25 to determine the tournament champion.

Ivey, 6-4, 195, has posted clips of 15.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 0.9 steals in 30.0 minutes through 48 games (47 starts). The fifth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft is the only rookie averaging at least 14.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game this season. He ranks first among all rookies in assists (4.5), third in points (15.1) and free throws made (3.5) and fifth in steals (0.9). Ivey has scored in double figures in 43-of-48 games to begin his career, which is the second most through 48 games in franchise history (Kelly Tripucka, 44). He has recorded the most games (nine) with 10-plus points, five-plus rebounds and five-plus assists among all NBA rookies in 2022-23.

Duren, 6-10, 250, has averaged 8.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.8 blocks while shooting 66% from the field in 44 appearances. Since moving into the starting lineup on Dec. 9, Duren is averaging 10.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.9 blocks in 19 starts. He ranks first among all Pistons in total rebounds (375), blocks (37) and field goal percentage (.660) on the year, leads all rookies in rebounds and is tied for the most double-doubles (10). Duren’s 147 offensive rebounds are the most in franchise history through a player’s first 44 career games.

This marks the first time Detroit has had two rookie Rising Stars in the same season. Cade Cunningham (rookie), Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart (sophomores), were all selected to participate in 2022 with Cunningham earning MVP honors.  The Pistons have now had 16 different players make an appearance in the Rising Stars Challenge.
