Jaguars vs. Titans Postgame Quotes: Titans T Jack Conklin, Linebacker Jayon Brown, S Kevin Byard, G Rodger Saffold III

TITANS T JACK CONKLIN

(On what he thinks what wrong during the team’s loss) “We have to watch film obviously and see what we need to fix. But it comes back down to first and second down. Anytime you put yourself in a situation of third and long, it really shortens our playbook and really amps up the defense’s. We have to do better in getting it started and not falling behind. When you fall behind to a team like this, they’re going to amp it up and throw everything at us. So, it comes down to that, just first and second down efficiency.”

(On allowing QB Mariota to be sacked nine times) “That’s a rough one. We don’t want to see a quarterback get hit that much and that’s on us.”

(On if the team is waiting for LT Taylor Lewan to rejoin the team) “We think we have the guys here that can play well and play hard and we have to figure it out. Luckily we have this long week now to look at what we can fix and prepare for the Falcons.”

(On playing from behind) “It makes it tougher. Anytime you fall behind, you start moving away from the run game. You start to lose your play action and then you’re just dropping back. Like I said, it shortens our playbook and amps theirs up. Anytime you get in that situation you’re in for a rough night.”

TITANS LINEBACKER JAYON BROWN

(On what Gardner Minshew II did to make plays tonight) “He did everything he needed to do to come out victorious, as he did. When the rush lanes were there, he took advantage of it, scrambled and made plays.”

(On playing consistently all game) “Yeah, we’ve just got to play four quarters of solid, hard defense and can’t ever let up. Shout out to Logan [Ryan] for not allowing them to score a touchdown at the end.”

(On what has to be the mindset of the team going forward) “We have to look ourselves in the mirror and watch film critically, point the finger at ourselves and fix it. Go on to Atlanta and do everything we can to win.”

(On the Titans’ penalties tonight) “We can’t do nothing. The refs are doing their job and we’ve got to better with technique and play better, sound football.”

TITANS S KEVIN BYARD

(On his thoughts of the game overall) “We pretty much shut them down the entire game, except for that last run towards the end. A couple of big plays. We have to cut down on the penalties all together on offense, defense, special teams. I think we showed great effort and I think that will show on film when we watch film tomorrow.”

(On the Titans run defense performance) “Yeah, it’s frustrating because you stop the run the whole entire game. You look at it where you stop it the entire time and give one big run and it looks like we didn’t stop the run at all the whole game. Like I said, I was proud of our effort in the defense. We kept fighting the entire game. We started off bad giving up fourteen points, but then for the rest of the game they only scored six points. So, at the end of the day, I definitely feel like we showed great effort in that.”

(On the play of QB Gardner Minshew) “He’s a good quarterback. Hats off to him. He made some good throws out there, made some big plays for his team. He gave his team the opportunity to win the ball game. Their defense played great, so hats off to Jacksonville.”

TITANS G RODGER SAFFOLD III

(On trying to win after falling behind early) “It’s really difficult. That first touchdown really took the wind out of our sails of course because we put ourselves in a great position. Then to start off like that and the game kind of spiraled out of control from there. We just need to start faster. I don’t think that the guys gave up, I don’t think they stopped fighting. I just think that we couldn’t sustain drives with so many penalties and more missed opportunities.”

(On if the team played with enough heart) “Absolutely. The effort has never been the problem with this team. I’ve always said its part of the details and the details are actually going fine, but the penalties are what’s been killing us, especially in this game. It hasn’t been killing us in the first two games. We’ve been the least penalized team for a reason and we just have to get back to that.”

(On why the offensive line is struggling) “It’s not really struggling with stunts, its just at the end of the day we’re getting coverage sacks thrown in there. We were getting blitzed almost every single play. So it’s just big ups to their defense. They did a great job being ready to go in a short week. They dialed us up a ton in the run game, as well as the pass and the times we were able to overcome it, we got penalties. So that’s on us.”
