BIRMINGHAM – The UAB women’s basketball team opens its two-game homestand on Jan. 5 when it hosts Florida Atlantic. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
UAB LATELY
UAB (8-4, 0-3 C-USA) is coming off a 71-68 loss at UTSA on Dec. 31. The Blazers are a perfect 5-0 at Bartow Arena this season.
FLORIDA ATLANTIC LATELY
Florida Atlantic (9-2, 2-0 C-USA) has won eight of its last nine games including a 66-61 decision over North Texas on Dec. 31. The Owls are 2-2 on the road this season.
UAB AND FLORIDA ATLANTIC HISTORY
The teams played two nonconference games at Bartow Arena in 2003 and 2006 before Florida Atlantic joined Conference USA in 2013-14. In league play, UAB has dominated, winning nine of the 11 matchups. The Owls won the only Conference USA Championship meeting in 2021. The Blazers lead the overall series 11-3 and 6-1 in Birmingham.
LAST TIME AGAINST FLORIDA ATLANTIC
Zakyia Weathersby recorded her 11th double-double of the season and three other Blazers had double-figure scoring in UAB’s 82-65 victory over Florida Atlantic on Jan. 15, 2022.

UAB TO THE AAC
American Athletic Conference officials announced that Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, UTSA, Rice and Texas San Antonio will join UAB as new members in the AAC and compete against current AAC members East Carolina, Memphis, Navy, USF, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State. The move will be official on July 1, 2023.
