Aleksas Savickas and Joshua Liendo cap strong U.S. Open performances with conference awards
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Aleksas Savickas and Joshua Liendo followed up impressive performances at the 2022 Toyota U.S. Open last week with SEC weekly honors, the conference announced Tuesday. Savickas was named SEC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while Liendo earned SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week.
Savickas tallied his second conference weekly honor this season, after being named the SEC Men’s Freshman of the Week back on Nov. 1. The Panevezys, Lithuania native won both the 100m and 200m breast during the U.S. Open. He swam a 1:00.54 in the 100m breast, taking first out of a 67-swimmer field. In the 200m breast, Savickas touched the wall in 2:09.68 to earn gold.
Liendo claimed his fourth conference weekly honor this season (9-27, 10-25, 11-8, 12-6) after claiming three silver medals at the U.S. Open. The Canadian Olympian was the runner-up in the 50m free (21.99), 100m free (48.97), and the 100m fly (52.48).
The Gators return to action on Jan. 13, hosting FAU for Senior Day at 2 p.m.
