On December 4th, 2022, the Jacksonville Jaguars traveled to the Motor City to face off against the Detroit Football Lions. Jags coming off of a 2 game win streak, and the Lions well rested since the Bills squeaked by on Thanksgiving. It looked like the Jags would have been better suited to forfeit by halftime.
Trevor Lawrence, the number 1 pick of the 2021 draft, looked like he still cannot have more than 2 good games in a row passing. The Jags offense managed to only get set up for 2 FGs while the Lions offense dominated, especially on the 1st possession when DeShawn Elliot forced a fumble to create a short field. Which the Lions quickly went up to 0-7 lead. It was smooth sailing with a dominant performance from there. Both offensively and defensively. Close to the end of the half. James ‘Da Problem’ Houston had a monstrous clean sack on Lawrence which forced him to get looked at by medical team in the Locker room. Lions led 6-23 at the Half.
Lawrence returned to play at Halftime, managed to get a TD and a 2 point conversion to give the Jags their final score of 14. While the Lions continued their dominance offensively. Scoring on every possession but the victory one at the end of the game.
My biggest factors. The Big Uglies on the offensive line. They created holes, a Mack Truck could run through, for the run game to amass another 100 yards on the ground. And despite 2 sacks and 1 holding penalty. Gave Goff enough time to make sammiches while the WRs got open.
Amon-Ra St. Brown had another stellar 10+ receptions 100+ yards and a couple of scores. Swfty and Swaggy scored. And Jared Goff went 31/41 340 yards 2 TDs and not one turnover.
Defensively, the Lions were just as dominant. Houston, Hutchinson, Elliot, the secondary, Anzalone, Barnes, Rodriguez. All in all, it was the most complete game in this rendition of the Lions created by Holmes and Campbell.
Jaguars 14
Lions 40
