LIONS HEAD COACH DAN CAMPBELL QUOTE SHEET November 22, 2022
Opening Statement: “Today was really like, there again, some more base and then third down walkthrough mode. And guys got a little more pep in their step so that’s good. And then, obviously tomorrow will be the – kind of the final show. Getting everything – the last little bit in and then we’ll be ready to go.” On how much he looks at this week as a barometer when facing a team like the Bills: “I mean, I know there’s some – something to that, but at the same token – I mean, to me it’s another team, it’s another chance. I don’t really – I think any time you win in this League, you had to do some things right no matter who you’re playing and it all comes down to the same things. And you’re trying to give yourself the best opportunity to win a game, and so to me, if we can do that when we’re competitive and we come out on top by the end of this game then we did things right. But if we played good clean football, I like our odds.” On if he has an idea of what Ford Field is going to be like on Thursday after they have won three games in a row: “Oh yeah, I already thought about that. That was one of the first things I thought of after this game on the plane ride home is like, man, this place is going to be – because it’s been good. I mean, it’s been electric and I can only imagine now. I already know it’s going to be on fire. So, and it’s going to be great. It’s going to be great.” On what the Bills did to slow down Browns RB Nick Chubb on Sunday: “Yeah, well I would say early – Cleveland was able to do some things early now. They just didn’t – they weren’t able to capitalize early. They had two opportunities for a touchdown there in the redzone on second and third down, two dropped passes. So, and then it just kind of ended up getting out of their hand a little bit. But look it’s the same thing, we know this defense is a very good defense. They’re very disruptive and they hit the gaps. They’re very – gap responsibility, they play with that, their secondary comes up and hits. The corners will squeeze, the safety, the nickel. I mean, they’re very disciplined. So, that’s what they did. They didn’t allow them to get going. And a guy like Chubb, if you can just give him a little crease no different than like (Giants RB Saquon) Barkley last week. If they can find a crease and get a couple of steps into what the run is designed for that’s where they’re very, very dangerous. But they’re not allowing that and that’s – there again, they’re very disciplined. They’re talented, they’re aggressive, they finish, they run, they hit. They do it all. So, that’s why they’ve had success.” On what he saw from the Bills and how they used their run game against the Browns: “Well, they leaned on it. They leaned on it. Those backs did a good job and when you incorporate that with this quarterback it’s a whole other element. And so, I know that they’ve traditionally thrown it, but we’re anticipating they’re going to try to run it. I mean, that was a good recipe for them. And so, I would think that they’ll try to do a lot of those things because they did have success against Cleveland. Now, I still say this quarterback’s obviously a huge part of everything. He is the biggest part, but I mean we’re ready for whatever they throw at us.” On if he can tell Bills QB Josh Allen has a shoulder injury: “Well if it is hurt I don’t see it. So, I see the same old guy that can make plays and he can hurt you.” On if the plan moving forward is to give Lions CBs Amani Oruwariye and Mike Hughes looks if Lions CB Jeff Okudah cannot play: “Yeah, I would say Amani too. I think you’re going to see all three of these guys. I think there’s a good chance you’ll see all three of them. All hands on deck this week.” On Lions G Jonah Jackson being sick yesterday and if there is anything going around the building: “Yeah, there’s a little bit of stuff. But there again, we’ll see how all this goes.” On if Lions DL Romeo Okwara plans to play this week: “Probably unlikely. But you never know. We’ve got enough people with sicknesses and we need him, we’ll do it.” On how Lions WR DJ Chark came out of the game on Sunday against the Giants and if he will play more this week: “Good. Good, he – I think it was really actually good for him. He had 11 snaps, but just to get his legs back under him, get in there and move around a little bit. I know he came out of the game feeling pretty good. So, we think – certainly, he’s going to be able to take a bigger load this week which is good.” |
