Landrus Named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week

DALLAS – Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer senior captain Hailey Landrus has been named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by C-USA on Tuesday morning.

BIG WEEK FOR LANDRUS

Landrus earns her first career weekly honor and the first for FAU this season after a strong pair of performances in two impressive Owl wins. Against Kansas, she assisted on Bri Austin’s game-winning goal with only 11 seconds left. She also played the entire 90 minutes and paced the defensive efforts against the Jayhawks.

In the C-USA opening win over North Texas, Landrus again went the full 90 and was an integral component to the FAU defense that pitched a shutout in the 1-0 win. The Owls ended North Texas’ NCAA Division I record 65-game home unbeaten streak in conference play that dated back to Oct. 31, 2008.

QUOTES FROM THE OWLS

“We are excited to see Hailey recognized by C-USA for her performances last week,” FAU head coach Patrick Baker said. “We played two very good teams in Kansas and North Texas, and our back line did an admirable job against them both. Hailey assisted the game-winner against Kansas with 11 seconds left last Thursday evening and did an amazing job against a very formidable attacking team in North Texas on Sunday. She has been playing some really good soccer again this fall, and we are excited to see what her senior season can bring.”

“I am honored and grateful to be receiving defensive player of the week,” Landrus said. “I believe the support of my teammates and coaches were the reason behind my reception of this award. The last two games were a big success for our program collectively, and its motivating to lead a team with such great potential. I am glad to be a part of it!”

BY THE NUMBERS

  • The FAU shutout over North Texas came against one of the best offenses in the nation. Prior to Sunday’s match, the Mean Green ranked fourth in the nation in scoring with 27 goals in nine games played

  • FAU ranks third in C-USA in goals allowed with only 10 in 10 games
