BIRMINGHAM – Coming off a thrilling 1-0 victory over Chattanooga on Thursday night, the UAB women’s soccer team will make its first road trip of the season when they visit Georgia Southern. Kickoff is scheduled for noon (CT) / 1 p.m. (ET).
UAB LATELY
In UAB’s victory over Chattanooga, Asha Zuniga scored the lone goal on a PK in the 56th minute. Anika Toth and Eve Beyer split the clean sheet.
The Blazers were picked to finish fifth in the 11-team Conference USA. UAB played a pair of exhibition matches, both 0-0 draws, at Vanderbilt on Aug. 8 and versus Belmont on Aug. 14.
GEORGIA SOUTHERN LATELY
GSU is coming off a 4-0 loss at Georgia on Aug. 18.
The Eagles were picked to finish fourth in the seven-team Sun Belt-East Conference. GSU had two players earn a position on the Preseason All-Sun Belt Team in Elis Nemtsov and Sade Heinrich.
THE SERIES VS. GEORGIA SOUTHERN
The Blazers and Eagles have met two times with UAB winning each match. The series began in 2003 and did not continue until 2019.
LAST MATCH VS. GEORGIA SOUTHERN
Megan Hudgens found the back of the net in the 55th minute, scoring the only goal in UAB’s 1-0 victory over Georgia Southern on Sept. 15, 2019. Eve Beyer recorded her third straight shutout and got outstanding support from the backline who only allowed five shots.

UAB TO THE AAC STARTING IN 2022-23
On Thurs., Oct. 21, American Athletic Conference officials announced that Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice and Texas San Antonio will join UAB as new members in the AAC and compete against current AAC members East Carolina, Memphis, Navy, USF, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State. The UAB women’s soccer team will begin AAC play in the 2023 season.
