(On how QB Kyle Trask looked)
“I thought he did a good job. He was put in a lot of situations that we practiced – the twominute situation was outstanding. He made a good drive in the first half, he had the two
turnovers – one of them we have to block better, on fumble on the blindside, the other
was unfortunate, but I thought he managed the game well. He handled situations well,
he was in the game, he didn’t get rattled. He got set back some on 3rd-and-22 and still
got the first down. [He] got a first down across midfield to get us into field goal range. I
thought he did well.”
(On QB Kyle Trask’s touchdown to WR Jerreth Sterns)
“That’s a touchdown that we’ve got to take care of. He had a great throw on that, he had
a great throw on that, and he had a lot of touch on the ball.”

“[Jerreth] Sterns and [Kaylon] Geiger [Sr.] both showed up. Tyler [Johnson] showed up
in the first half – those guys can play. Like I said, we have a lot of tough decisions at
receiver. [Sterns] can play. He caught a lot of balls in college and when the lights came
on, he turned it on, Geiger turned it on, Tyler turned it on. There’s a lot of good film to
watch.”

“Cam [Gill] has been the ultimate professional. Every year he’s got something different
from it that he learned the year before that he added to his game. When he first got here,
he was strictly power and he didn’t know how to play – his technique has gotten better,
his awareness has gotten better, his drops have gotten better and he’s still a tenacious
rusher – and we don’t mind putting him in there. We don’t feel like we lose anything
when he goes into the ball game. He’s become very trustworthy.”
(On if he got what he expected)
“I did. We got a lot of good, but we’ve got some bad too – understanding situational
football, cleaning things up – but for the guys’ first time out there, I thought they had a lot
of effort, I thought they fought hard, and gave themselves a chance.”
(On establishing the run and giving several running backs a look)
“Just give a lot of running backs a look, and offensive linemen as well, so we tried to mix
it up. Obviously, we want to be balanced sometimes, it all depends on what they give us,
but I thought those guys established some toughness down there, we stayed with it, [and
I] felt [offensive coordinator] Byron [Leftwich] mixed it up well and we had some success
with it.”
(On if Kyle Trask needs to have a clock in his head to prevent turnovers)
“You’ve always got to have a clock in your head, sometimes it’s inevitable. You know,
sometimes they get there before the clock goes off. [We’ve] got to block it better and
sometimes [we’ve] just got to see it better. I don’t think that one was his fault.”
(On tonight’s pass rush)
“[I’ve] got to see [the video] – got to see it completely to see which guy did what.
Pressure is more important – the sacks are great, but we want to see who’s getting back
there and who’s making strides and not sticking on blocks.”
(On the offensive line, especially the guards)
“I thought we were solid for the most part. I have to see the film to be sure of that, but
you know, we had some success running the ball, we protected fairly decent for a certain
amount of time, so I’ve got to see who did well and who didn’t.”
(On the defense’s overall performance)
“A lot of guys played well on defense. Some guys got in and had two or three busts.
There were two passes that shouldn’t have happened that we didn’t have a guy there.
But the younger guys that we’ve got to clean up, but it’s nothing that they hadn’t seen.
We’ve got to clean that part up and they have to learn from that going forward.”

“I thought there were guys that made cases, obviously there’s next week as well so [I’ve]
got to see how they did on special teams, but I thought [Kaylon] Geiger, Tyler [Johnson]
and [Jerreth] Sterns played well. Jordan Young had a big hit on the kickoff team. I
thought [Olakunle] Fatukasi did some good things on defense. Nolan [Turner] did some
good things on defense, so we’ll see what the film looks like, but a lot of guys that we
were interested in looking at did some good things.”
(On putting pressure on Miami’s quarterback)
“That’s the main thing, you know, you don’t ever want him to sit back there, comfortable.
If you can get him off of his spot, running and uncomfortable – some quarterbacks are
very good on the run and some are not – but you want to get them off their spot never
the less.”
(On what he saw from K Jose Borregales)
“The first [field goal] was great – about 55 yards – and then he hit the second one and
they called a time-out and froze him. [I] just think he got a bad hit on the third one for the
game when he kind of hit the crossbar. It looked ugly coming off the foot, and you know,
we’ve got to make those kicks. That’s what their job is.”
(On P Jake Camarda’s performance)
“The first one wasn’t as good, but after that his hang time and his directional punting was
great.”

QUARTERBACK KYLE TRASK
(On his overall play)
“Yeah obviously it was bittersweet, personally, because I made a huge stride in my
game play. Obviously you want to win the game, but just looking at my performance I’m
really proud of myself for the amount of growth that I’ve shown but I know I also have a
long way to go to get to where I want to be. All I can do is keep on striving and just keep
getting better every single day.”
(On how valuable it was to gain experience in the two-minute offense )
“Yeah it’s huge. If you look at NFL games, there’s a two-minute drive in pretty much
every single game, so the more two-minute reps you can get and drives you can get
under your belt, that’s more experience you can use down the road.”
(On his two turnovers)
“Yeah I mean, especially in the preseason, you just need to just get the ball out a little
quicker. Obviously hindsight is 20/20, I can look back and go somewhere else with the
ball a little faster. The interception was a little fluky play. Luckily, we still gave ourselves
a chance to win in the end. That’s all we can ask of ourselves as an offense.”
(On the last drive and his calm demeanor, specifically the third-down-and-22 yards to
gain a first down)
“Yeah I just told the guys we’ve got two plays. Obviously it’s a two-minute situation at the
end of the game. You know, we just had to get a chunk – we had to get two separate
ideally 10-yard chunks. So I just tried to stay calm, that’s all you can do is stay relaxed,
that’s when you play your best. So I just tried to keep the guys locked in and luckily we
were able to push the ball downfield and give ourselves a chance.”
(On his relationship with QB’s Blaine Gabbert)
“Blaine’s awesome. Luckily I’ve been able to grow close with [the other quarterbacks]
over the past year and they’ve been nothing but helpful to me. I’m just, I’m very blessed
to be in the position I’m in to be in a room full of so many veterans. Any question I ask
they just have a great answer for me. I really just try to take advantage of all the
experience in the room and try to learn as much as I can.”

KICKER JOSE BORREGALES
(On how good he felt on his 55-yard field goal make)
“I felt good, I mean I got the chance to show what I have, I’m glad I made that. You make
it and then you forget about it, onto the next one.”
(On if he felt the two-minute offense pressure despite it being preseason)
“Obviously you want to compete 100 percent so I was just getting ready for the kick, I
was calm when I went out there. I made the first one, and they called timeout and I just
didn’t get it done the second time, I just have to do better.”
(On if ‘icing’ has ever played a factor in his performance)
“It really doesn’t matter to me, I don’t see it as disrupting the kicker mentally but again, I
just have to be better.”
(On the expectation of hitting long field goals as well as remaining consistent)
“I just have to be better, it’s my job to make the kicks and I have to execute, that’s on
me. The snap was perfect, so I put the blame on myself – the Dolphins gave us a
chance to win the game and I just didn’t pull through.”
(On how he will sleep tonight after missing the game winning field goal)
“You know, it’s onto the next one, [I] can’t dwell on it – I know I’m a very good kicker, I
believe in my technique, and I have a lot of confidence in myself. I’ll just come back and
be ready to go whenever they need me next.”
WIDE RECEIVER JAELON DARDEN
(On the camaraderie among the wide receivers)
“It’s definitely a brotherhood, for sure. Everybody is trying to get everybody better, if that
makes sense. And we’re all trying to learn from each other. I feel like it’s basically a
brotherhood.”
(On if his second year in the offense is easier)
“I’ve definitely been in the playbook, so it is easier. It slowed down a lot, so I’m getting
back to my old ways with playing fast because at first, I wasn’t playing fast. It’s definitely
getting easier with the mental aspect.”
(On the potential of the offense)
“We’re definitely loaded, but at the end of the day, we can only control what we can
control – everybody has to put their hand in the pot.”
INSIDE LINEBACKER OLAKUNLE FATUKASI
(On what was difficult about playing in his first professional game)
“It’s just the transition from college to the league, everything is faster here but once you
get used to it you start dialing in.”
(On how much faster the game speed is in game as opposed to training camp)
“It’s probably just a little bit faster because you had three months of work to prepare for
the first game. I don’t think it was a big difference, but I think it was just a little bit
different.”
(On what the defense did well today)
“I felt like we communicated [well] and we just ran to the ball and played great defense
as a unit.”
WIDE RECEIVER TYLER JOHNSON
(On how he felt with making big catches)
“It felt good. I felt comfortable out there, just being able to play fast with the experience
that I [have]. The quarterback help put me in the best situations.”
(On what he’s trying to perfect in his game)
“Everything. I believe that I’m still a young receiver, still learning, [and] I got some great
guys in the room that I’m learning from. It’s not just one thing, it’s pretty much everything
for real.”
OUTSIDE LINEBACKER ANTHONY NELSON
(On if he thought he is carrying in momentum from last season)
“Yeah, last year gave me a lot of confidence coming into this year. Just another
offseason of work – more time with the defense, more time learning from guys like Shaq
[Barrett]. I feel more confident, and I want to continue rolling [with that] through the
season.”
(On if he developed pass-rushing moves over time)
“Yeah, I feel like I was a power guy when I first came in and I still rely on that
fundamental and that’s still my identity. But I’ve been able to add some stuff that I’ve
learned from Shaq [Barrett] and then just refine what I have and play aggressive. It’s
been good for me, I’ve definitely developed, and I have a long ways to go but it’s been
good so far.”
(On fulfilling the roles of pass-rushers on the roster)
“No doubt. Everybody in our room is ready to step up [and] take on a little more and do
more for this defense. We want to be the most dominant room in this whole defense, so
we all have to do a little more. We’ve been making great strides this camp, like I said we
still have a ways to go but I’m excited to see what Joe [Tryon-Shoyinka], Shaq [Barrett],
myself, Cam [Gill] and all the young guys can do – we’re going to have a good group.”
RUNNING BACK KE’SHAWN VAUGHN
(On how the run game was behind the line)
“You have to trust them boys up front – that they’re going to do their job because they’re
going to trust me to do my job. At the end of the day, we’re playing as a team [and] each
play we’re going to work as a team to get to where we want to be.”
(On the competition of the people in his running back group and how it pushes him)
“I love it. Seeing everybody make plays makes you want to make a play. I thrive on
competition, so that’s always going to be my thing.”
(On what he has worked on this training camp)
“Becoming an all-around player [and] running back – passing, catching, and being that
