LAWRENCE, Kan. – (Sept. 1, 2019) – The Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer team fell prey to the lone goal of the match as No. 18 Kansas took Sunday’s 1-0 decision at Rock Chalk Park.
The Turning Point:
The Jayhawks (4-0-0) scored what would become the game-winner just 12:24 into the match, and despite the Owls (2-1-0) holding a shot advantage of 4-1 through most of the first half, that one KU shot made good and was all the home team would need.
The Finish:
After the break, FAU took five shots to Kansas’ two, for a 9-4 overall edge, but none of the five second-half attempts were on target. KU milked the clock late to clinch the win.
Notables:
· The two Owl shots on goal were from Mary O’Hara and Gi Krstec, both saved in the first half by the KU keeper
· Krstec and Pernille Velta had two good looks in the final 45
· Defenders Carolynn Wotring and Alex Maxson played the full 90, as did goalkeeper Cassidy Wasdin, who did not have a save (as only the KU goal was on target)

“Disappointing first goal, turning the ball over inside our defensive third,” said head coach Patrick Baker. “They’re sharp on the attack and it was three passes and in the back of the net. But after that, I thought we took the kickoff and put it down on their end and just came after them. Overall, I just love how we competed today … We probably deserved better on the day, but at the end of the day, we end up with a loss. We’ll grow from it.”
What’s Next:
The Owls will return home and are scheduled to host two matches next weekend. The first is Friday vs. Dartmouth, at 5:30 p.m., as part of a doubleheader with the men’s team, who will play Louisville afterwards. Then, on Sunday, it’s the women against North Florida at 1 p.m.
