USF Athletics: Former USF and NFL QB BJ Daniels Joins Bulls Club Staff

Former USF and NFL quarterback will serve as Assistant Director of Development – Community & Donor Engagement

TAMPA, JUNE 21, 2022 – Former USF and NFL quarterback BJ Daniels has joined the USF Athletics Bulls Club staff as Assistant Director of Development – Community and Donor Engagement, Vice President of Athletics Michael Kelly announced.

Daniels, a Bulls fan favorite who amassed 10,501 total yards and 21 wins as a starting quarterback from 2009-12, rejoined USF Athletics last year as a quality control assistant for head coach Jeff Scott’s football program. In his new role with the Bulls Club, he will engage alumni and student-athletes to join the mission of USF Athletics.

“BJ has a tremendous presence with our alumni, fans, community and current student-athletes and we are thrilled to have him join the Bulls Club’s mission as we embark on a transformational era in USF Athletics,” Kelly said. “BJ created many indelible memories on the field and now will apply his energy and many skills toward supporting opportunities for the next generation of Bulls.”

Prior to returning to USF in 2021, Daniels spent five seasons in the NFL and one in the AAF and XFL. A seventh-round draft pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2013, he also spent time with the NFL’s Houston Texans, New York Giants, Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks – with whom he was part of the team that won Super Bowl XLVIII.

“We are so excited to have BJ join our staff and he will be a tremendous ambassador for Athletics, the University and our Bulls Club mission,” Deputy Athletic Director/Associate Vice President for Development Lelo Prado said. “BJ has such a great connection with Bulls Nation and the Tampa Bay community and we look forward to having him on our team.”

Daniels posted a 21-12 record as a starting quarterback at USF, leading the Bulls to memorable victories at No. 18 Florida State (2009), at No. 16 Notre Dame (2011) and bowl game wins over Clemson (2010, Meineke Car Care Bowl) and Northern Illinois (2009, International Bowl) among many memorable moments. He ranks third in career total offense (10,501 yards), career passing yards (8,433), passing touchdowns (52) and rushing touchdowns (25), and stands sixth in career rushing yards (2,068) at USF.

“I greatly appreciate the opportunity Coach Scott gave me to return to USF and work with the football program,” Daniels, a Tallahassee native, said. “Football is my first love and I really enjoyed working with the coaches and student-athletes. I have a different vision for the next step in my career and am grateful for the opportunity provided by Michael Kelly and Lelo Prado to pursue it. I’m excited to support the next generation of Bulls and look forward to seeing Bulls Nation soon.”
