GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Athletics saw classroom success in all sports again in the Academic Progress Rate (APR), announced Tuesday by the NCAA.
Four Florida women’s teams turned in the max of 1,000 scores – cross country, golf, gymnastics and volleyball. Florida’s overall average APR is 989, above the national four-year rate of 984.
“Last month, we finished the academic year with an overall student-athlete GPA of 3.21 – the highest in program history,” Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin said. “Today’s APR is another example of the commitment Gator student-athletes show in the academic arena.”
Thirteen Florida teams exceeded or equaled its sport’s national average. This includes Florida football team’s 981, which is above the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) national average of 969. Men’s basketball (990) and baseball (982) also surpass the national averages of 968 and 977, respectively.
Since 2020, a portion of NCAA revenue is distributed to members based on student-athletes’ academic achievement, including APR scores. Schools earn one academic achievement unit per year if its student-athletes meet at least one of these requirements:
* Earn an overall single-year all-sport APR of 985 or higher
* Earn an overall all-sport Graduation Success Rate of 90% or higher
* Earn a federal graduation rate that is at least 13 percentage points higher than the federal graduation rate of the student-body at that school
Florida qualifies for the NCAA revenue distribution as it meets the first two points.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team’s academic success by tracking eligibility and progress toward graduation of each student-athlete on scholarship. The current report contains multi-year rates based on the four years from the 2017-18 academic year through the 2020-21 academic year.
To compete in 2022-23 postseason action, teams must achieve a 930 four-year APR in this report. This is the 18th year of the APR.
