UAB Baseball Falls to WKU, 7-3, in Game One of Weekend Tilt

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The UAB baseball team fell 7-3 to WKU on Friday night in the first of a three-game weekend series at Nick Denes Field.

Darryl Buggs paced the Blazers offensively with three base knocks, all singles, and an RBI. Josh SearsJohn Marc MullinsCaleb Floyd and Matthew Golda also picked up hits for the Green and Gold.

WKU’s starting pitcher Devyn Terbrak notched the win and improved to 6-3 on the season, while UAB’s starter Jackson Reynolds suffered the loss and dropped to 2-4 on the year.

The Blazers got on the board in the top of the first inning when Mullins led off the game with a double and scored on Sears’ single.

However, the Hilltoppers answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning and one run in the second.

After scoreless third and fourth innings, the Blazers notched a run in the top of the fifth when a Buggs single brought home Golda, who led off the inning with a double. UAB cut the deficit to one run in the top of the sixth inning with the rally beginning with Logan Braunschweig reaching on a dropped third strike. He advanced to second on a Sears walk and to third on a deep fly out by Willoughby. Golda scored on a Floyd single to make the score 4-3.

WKU added three insurance runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning to close out the scoring at 7-4.

UAB (26-18, 11-12 C-USA) and WKU continue the weekend series Saturday at 5 p.m.
