Miami Dade celebrate opening of Tech Lab

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava joined the official launch of the Microsoft Accelerate Tech Lab hosted at The Pierre Toussaint Leadership and Learning Center in Little Haiti. The Microsoft Accelerate Tech lab – the first of its kind in Miami-Dade County – provides local students with access to technological and scientific learning opportunities and is part of Mayor Levine Cava’s efforts to increase opportunities for Miami-Dade residents in the current tech boom.

“Investing in and supporting effective and equitable educational resources for our community is a top priority for my administration,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava. “The Microsoft Accelerate Tech lab, in partnership with the Pierre Toussaint Leadership and Learning Center, is creating a better learning environment, providing greater educational outcomes, and uplifting our county’s students. Together we are expanding the possibilities for learning in Miami-Dade, which will benefit every part of the community.”

The Pierre Toussaint Leadership and Learning Center serves as Little Haiti’s local educational resource center, with one-on-one educational assistance, technology exploration, recreation and physical activity, and skill development.

“The partnership with the Microsoft Accelerate program through Miami Dade-County is a revolution in the sphere of technology in Little Haiti.  It is a divorce from mediocrity, by which our community can, and will, thrive for a way out and not a handout,” said Rev. Fr. Reginald, CEO of the Pierre Toussaint Leadership and Learning Center, and Administrator of Notre Dame D’Haiti. “We must all continue to work together to minimize and mitigate the impact that the ever-changing demographic is having on our community, most especially on the vulnerable youth and those without technological access.”

The Tech Lab in Little Haiti is part of Microsoft’s Accelerate Miami-Dade program that aims to provide a pathway from skilling to employment for Miami-Dade residents, to bridge the digital skills divide and route people to diverse and equitable hiring and re-employment opportunities.

“As technology accelerates growth across the region, we need to manage the challenges this growth is creating, not just for individual institutions, but for the entire community,” said Jacky Wright, Corporate Vice President and Chief Digital Officer, Microsoft US. “The Microsoft Accelerate Tech lab reflects our commitment to enabling equitable access to education, opportunity, and economic mobility; making sure everyone can benefit.”
