Mayor Scott Brook and the Coral Springs City Commission invite families and community leaders to participate the 7th Annual Mayors’ Chess Challenge on Saturday, May 7 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Sartory Hall (10150 NW 29th Street).
Initially started by the City of Sunrise, the Mayors’ Chess Challenge is held in more than a dozen other cities across Broward County and is for all ages and skill levels. Registration is not required, and light refreshments will be served.
“Chess helps to develop strategy, inspires creative thinking, and patience. I am excited to be part of an activity that benefits our youth allows to look well beyond their first move,” Mayor Scott Brook said.
In addition to the Mayors’ Chess Challenge, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department are excited to host the 2nd Annual King of Coral Springs Chess tournament on Saturday, May 21 at 9 a.m. The event, in partnership with the National Scholastic Chess Foundation, will be held at the Coral Springs Charter School and is open to two age divisions:
- Elementary School: Ages 5-11
- Middle and High School: Ages 12-18
