GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The sixth-ranked Florida softball team steps back into Southeastern Conference action this weekend with a three-game series against No. 15 Tennessee at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. Friday and Saturday’s games will be streamed via SEC Network+ with Kyle Crooks and Francesca Enea on the call, while Sunday’s series finale will have Mike Couzens and Kayla Braud.
The Gators (26-3, 4-2 SEC) enter the weekend against the Lady Vols (20-8, 3-2 SEC) after the team took its lone midweek contest against Stetson, 7-0, in DeLand, Fla. It was the program’s 11th shutout of the season, which ranks first in the SEC and eighth nationally.
Fifth year graduate Natalie Lugo and freshman Lexie Delbrey have each turned in a pair of complete-game shutout performances, while Elizabeth Hightower has notched one so far this season.
In addition, UF has won its last 11 SEC regular season series entering this weekend. The Orange & Blue took the SEC Opening Weekend Series against Mississippi State, 2-1, and the following weekend at Texas A&M, 2-1. The last series program dropped was the final regular season series of the 2019 season against Mississippi State.
The Gators have found a tremendous amount of success at the plate so far this season and are the only program in the nation with four batters in the lineup with at least 32 hits on the season. Freshman Kendra Falby leads the way with 41 hits on the year and is followed by fifth year senior Hannah Adams’ 38 hits, senior Cheyenne Lindsey’s 36 hits and redshirt-junior Skylar Wallace’s 32 hits.
Florida’s team speed has been showcased much of the 2022 season and one component of that team speed has resulted in a multitude of triples so far this year. The Orange and Blue currently leads the nation with 15 triples, which is also the 3rd most in a season in UF history. Leading the way individually in the category is Lindsey who boasts five total on the season, which is the most by a UF senior in program history.
The speed has also translated into a plethora of stolen bases as the Gators rank second in the nation in category with 73 through 29 games played, which translates to 2.52 stolen bases per game. Leading the way is Wallace, who is a perfect 23-for-23, and Falby, who is 22-of-24 on the year. The duo are the first Gators to have 20+ stolen bases in a season since 2015 when Kelsey Stewart and Kirsti Merritt scorched the base paths with 26 and 23 stolen bases respectively.
