GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida senior All-American Nya Reed is part of the 2022 Southeastern Conference Gymnastics Community Service, announced today by the league office.
The SEC’s eight gymnastics programs places a gymnast who gives back to her community through exemplary service efforts on the team. Each of the 21 sports the league sponsors has its own Community Service Team.
Just this past fall, Reed contributed 51 community service hours.
A large portion of her time was devoted to one of her ideas take up by the Black Student-Athlete Council (BSAC) during the fall of 2021. Reed organized and facilitated a Hat, Glove and Sock Drive with the collected items distributed to the Gainesville homeless population.
She’s made visits to UF Health Shands Hospital and made cards for children who are Shands patients.
Reed was part of the staff for the 2021 Harvest Food Drive. At the annual event, aspiring gymnasts can join the Gators for a gymnastics clinic. Admission is six non-perishable food items and the team contributed 540 pounds of food items to a local food pantry following the 2021 event.
Reed helped wrap and distribute shoes at local elementary schools as part of the annual Florida student-athlete led Gator Tracks initiative. Gator student-athletes purchased and distributed almost 400 pairs of shoes to local children in need of a new pair of shoes in December of 2021.
In the competition arena in 2022, Reed twice posted collegiate-best floor exercise 10.0 scores. She also set her collegiate vault high of 9.975.
