The Hollywood Commission is concerned about too much activity at the beach. Members of the Commission showed support for setting closing hours for the beach, the banning of some tents and bicycles from the Broadwalk area.
During a recent meeting, the commissioners discussed an ordinance that would close the sandy area of the beach to the public every night. The goal would be to increase safety and security on the beach by eliminating trespassing. The proposed ordinance would close the beach between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Commissioners may want to have a midnight to 5 a.m. closure period. The ordinance sought to ban tents and canopies from the beach and bicycles with more than two wheels, roller skating and roller blading. This would increase pedestrian safety on the Broadwalk.
The commissioners voted against a ban on roller skating and roller blading but they did vote to ban recumbent tricycles also known as banana bikes.
