Oakland Park offers residents free trees

Oakland Park residents and business owners are invited to a free Tree Giveaway on Saturday, February 26, at Jaco Pastorius Community Center, located at 1098 NE 40 Court. The Tree Giveaway will begin at 8 a.m. and last until supplies run out. Choose from a wide selection of native and Florida Friendly plants to help grow our Oakland Park tree canopy. Please bring proof of residency or business ownership. Get up to three plants per household.

The City of Oakland Park is installing new trees and shrubs in the medians along Oakland Park Boulevard, between NW 31 Avenue and NW 21 Avenue. While landscaping is installed, Oakland Park Boulevard will be reduced to two lanes in either direction. The temporary lane closures will be in effect weekdays through May, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Establish in 1957, Youth Day is Oakland Park’s signature and longest-running celebration. This year we’re honoring our local superheroes, including first responders and teachers. The event begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2022, with a community parade from Jaco Pastorius Park to Wimberly Field on NE 5 Avenue. The day continues with a family-friendly celebration with carnival rides, live music, delicious food; and ends with an exciting fireworks show before 9 p.m. Wristbands for the carnival rides may be purchased in advance for $15 or the day of the event for $20.
