Adams, Echols & Hightower Tabbed Preseason All-SEC
Last week the Gators were selected to finish second overall in the 2022 Southeastern Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Monday afternoon the Southeastern conference announced 2022 Preseason All-SEC Team, which included Florida standouts Hannah Adams, Charla Echols and Elizabeth Hightower. The Gators three selections are tied with Missouri for the most preseason team selections in the conference.
Echols, a unanimous 2021 NFCA First Team All-American selection, from Newnan, Ga. led the Gators with a .375 (60-of-160) average at the plate with 15 home runs, 11 doubles and three triples. Adams, a 2021 NFCA Third Team All-American, from Hoschton, Ga. finished last season with a .356 (63-of-177) batting average with 10 home runs and eight doubles.
The duo of Adams and Echols were also tabbed All-SEC First Team and All-SEC Defensive Team selections last season.
Hightower, a 2021 NFCA Third Team All-American, also was a 2021 All-SEC Second Team selection and earned a pair of SEC Pitcher of the Week accolades. The Monticello, Fla. native ranked inside the top 10 in the conference in seven different pitching categories. The right-handed hurler threw the first no-hitter of her career against USF in the Gainesville Regional Championship game. It was only the fourth complete-game no-hitter for the Gators in NCAA Tournament play.
Florida opens its 2022 season Friday, Feb. 11, at 5:30 p.m. against Illinois State in Tampa, Fla. at USF’s tournament. While there, the Gators will also take on No. 16/13 Michigan, Kansas City and USF.
The program’s first home game is set for Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 6 p.m. against Jacksonville.
