Langworthy played in 198 games for the Gators from 2017-20 and helped Florida capture the program’s first-ever national title as a freshman.

“We are excited to welcome Austin back to Gator Nation as an integral part of our coaching staff for the 2022 season,” head coach Kevin O’Sullivan<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__floridagators.com_coaches.aspx-3Frc-3D1445&d=DwIF-g&c=sJ6xIWYx-zLMB3EPkvcnVg&r=o5LKAX7slotfFMyE71jI7L22NYBIi1-KbRGNSXudTPo&m=ozoa1XlmzBpbbPkgjfl8-42LRidTw-dOjgeGerrMrWPcu-nKpEIJ7l5PduH0wnni&s=m37o4V1kmNW99f1rDqX4k_9cuE_bzrVunkfcleiKh6M&e= > said. “Austin exemplified the qualities we look for at Florida during his four years as a player here, and I have no doubt he will continue to bring value to our program as a student assistant coach while he works on the completion of his degree.”
Langworthy, who was a mainstay in the Florida outfield from 2017-20, joins the Gators coaching staff after a brief run with the Detroit Tigers organization as a player from 2020-21. After going undrafted in the 2020 MLB Draft, Langworthy signed with Detroit as a free agent.
Perhaps best remembered for his 11th inning walk-off home run vs. Auburn in Game 3 of the 2018 Super Regionals, Langworthy appeared in 198 games including 195 starts over the course of his four-year run with the Gators. He finished his career with a .270/.369/.413 batting line, totaling 19 home runs, five triples, 36 doubles, 130 runs, 106 RBI and 20 stolen bases.
Langworthy made 53 starts as a freshman in 2017 as the Gators captured their first-ever national title, and later started 16 games in left field during the 2020 campaign in which Florida went 16-1 and finished the year as the nation’s No. 1 team. During that 2017 campaign, Langworthy was named a Second Team Freshman All-American by Perfect Game while also garnering College World Series All-Tournament Team honors. In 2019, he was tabbed to the NCAA Lubbock All-Regional Team.
The Williston, Fla. native also held status as a two-way talent, pitching in 18 games from 2017-19 with a 3.34 ERA across 32.1 innings pitched.
Also accomplished off the diamond, Langworthy was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in each of his four years at Florida.
