Senior tackle named to list for second straight season; started 34 straight games
TAMPA, FLA., JULY 24, 2019 – USF senior Marcus Norman has been named to the 2019 Outland Trophy Award Preseason Watch List, making the watch list for the award recognizing the nation’s most outstanding interior lineman for the second straight season.
Norman (Sebastian) becomes the third Bull named to a national award watch list prior to the 2019 season, joining senior tight end Mitchell Wilcox (Mackey Award) and junior defensive back Mike Hampton (Jim Thorpe Award).
A second team all-conference selection in 2017, Norman has started 34 straight games at right tackle for the Bulls and has helped plow the way for three straight 1,000-yard rushers, including Jordan Cronkrite who ran for 1,121 yards last season and will return for his senior campaign after missing the spring due to a minor injury. Cronkrite continued a string of five straight 1,000-yard rushers for the Bulls dating to 2014, the most consecutive in program history.
Norman helped lead Cronkrite to a USF and American Athletic Conference record 302 yards rushing at UMass last season and also helped Cronkrite post a USF record-tying five consecutive 100-yard rushing games during the year. The Bulls ran fo 2,517 yards in 2018, the fourth-best total in program history, while averaging 193.6 yards per game on the ground, the fifth-best mark in program history.
Norman is among all five offensive line starters from the 2018 Gasparilla Bowl that return for USF in 2019. He is joined by fellow senior William Atterbury (Clearwater), who has made 23 straight starts, and sophomores Brad Cecil (Jacksonville), Demetris Harris (Jacksonville) and Donovan Jennings (Tampa).
