Good Evening Everyone. There are a lot of things I have on my mind and one of them is safety for fans everywhere. I’m surprised to hear criticism and push back from fans about the netting in MLB and in the MILB.
People are saying this has never happened before and all of a sudden within a couple of years you are hearing about fans dying or being seriously hurt with foul balls.
I have been to a game with the safety netting and it doesn’t do anything to hurt the experience for the fan. Honestly I almost got a fastball in the face. It’s about safety and I believe I know why this is happening.
Today’s world we rely so much on technology. People want to get the best selfie or want to text our friends and unfortunately we are so distracted. Another reason is baseballs being juiced? I don’t know if they are but the last couple of years MLB has experienced a record set of home runs and players like Justin Verlander have been critical of Commissioner Manfred.
Finally I don’t have an answer but I remember in the NHL when a puck flew into the stands and it hit and killed a young boy. The NHL immediately put netting all around the arena despite pushback from fans. MLB needs to do the same and increase the netting all around. Nothing is more important than players and fans safety. I hope MLB does increase the netting and maybe this is the reason attendance has been dropping in the last couple of years. Until next time
