FIU VB News: Bianchi Nabs C-USA Freshman of the Year Honors


DALLAS (Nov. 18, 2021) – 
Giada Bianchi of FIU indoor volleyball was named Conference USA Freshman of the Year, the league office announced on Thursday. Bianchi also was named to the All-Conference USA First Team and the All-Freshman team.
 
Voting on the awards and all-conference teams were done by the C-USA head coaches.
 
The award for the Monza, Italy native comes after she won back-to-back C-USA Freshman of the Week honors on October 25 and November 1.
 
Bianchi played in 19 of FIU’s 21 matches this season, while leading the Panthers with 312 points, which ranked ninth in all of CUSA. The outside hitter’s average of 4.66 points-per-set also ranked Bianchi sixth in the league.
 
On the offensive side of things, Bianchi led the Blue and Gold with 253 kills on the season, which averaged out to 3.78 kills-per-set. Her 3.78 kills per set average ranked ninth in the conference.
 
From the service line, Bianchi tallied the second most service aces in the conference with 34 while averaging .51 aces per set, which both ranked second in C-USA.
 
The Freshman of the Year also led the Panthers in double-double this season with 12.
 
FIU opens the C-USA Tournament against UTEP on November 19 at 7 pm ET from Norfolk, Virginia.
