Notes on FAU vs. UTEP game.
From David Volz
The FAU vs. UTEP game was interesting and hard fought.
FAU won the game 28 to 25 and survived two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter. FAU Coach Willie Taggert said that he was very disappointed with the two scores from UTEP late in the game and said that FAU lacked discipline and needed to improve. He said the team played well in the first three quarters but played poorly at the end. He said the team will work hard to correct the lack of discipline in the coming week.
UTEP scored a field goal in the first quarter. FAU’s Johnny Ford scored a touchdown on a 27 yard rush and Aaron Shahriari had the extra point kick.
In the second quarter UTEP scored a touchdown on a 23 yard pass play and kicked an extra point. FAU’s LaJohntay Wester scored a touchdown on a 23 yard pass play from quarterback N’Kosi Perry. Shahriari added the extra point kick.
In the third quarter FAU’s John Mitchell-Padron scored a touchdown on less than a yard run. Shahriari added the kick. Then FAU’s James Charles scored a touchdown on a one yard rush. Shahriari added the kick. The score until late in the fourth quarter was FAU 28, UTEP 10.
But UTEP was not done. The Miners scored on a five yard rush and then got a conversion. Then the Miners scored late in the game on a spectacular 49 yard pass play. These two late scores really disappointed Taggert.
Top rushers for FAU were Johnny Ford with 13 carries, 93 yards and one touchdown. James Charles had seven carries, ten yards and one touchdown.
LaJohntay Wester had 50 yards receiving and one touchdown.
Quarterback N’Kosi Perry was 12-23-0. He had 135 yards passing.
