USF Football: Cooling Plans in Place for Saturday’s Game

Plans to Keep Fans Cool in a Full Raymond James Stadium for Saturday’s Clash with Florida

Cooling towels and hand fans distributed to fans;

misters and free bottled water in student section

TAMPA, Sept. 10, 2021 – The University of South Florida football team opens the 2021 home season presented by Tampa General Hospital against the No. 13-ranked Florida Gators Saturday in a 1 p.m. kickoff at Raymond James Stadium.

Saturday’s tilt marks the first time the Bulls have ever hosted the Gators at Raymond James Stadium.

With a near sell-out crowd expected on Saturday, a few hundred tickets remained late Friday morning, 65,857-seat Raymond James Stadium will be packed and rocking. USF has outlined several heat mitigation initiatives for the public and in the USF student section aimed at creating a fun and comfortable environment for fans amidst a projected kickoff temperature in the high 80s.

General Public:

  • Cooling towels will be distributed to the first 25,000 fans at the gates.
  • 2021 Football schedule hand fans distributed to the first 30,000 fans.
  • 72 water fountains located throughout the stadium (main concourse, clubs, upper concourse levels)
  • 5 cool zone locations: south patio, east & west main concourses, east & west upper concourses
  • Additional medical staffing has been implemented throughout the stadium

USF Student Section:

  • Fans and misters above the 100-level student section, as well as around the pirate ship deck
  • Free bottles of water to USF students with ID.
    • Distributed at north patio, upper east (north end), upper west (north end)
  • 7 tiki hut shade options on the north patio
  • Water fun activities with Rocky in the student section

A few hundred tickets remain for the Florida game and are available by calling or texting 1-800-GoBulls or visiting USFBullstix.com or Ticketmaster. Fans are directed to purchase tickets by phone or on-line and not to drive to stadium ticket windows.

ABOUT USF FOOTBALL

The USF football program first took the field in 1997 and will celebrate its 25th season in 2021 (22nd at the FBS level). USF has posted 15 winning seasons and is the fastest program in the state of Florida to reach 150 all-time wins. Bulls have earned 14 All-America selections, 29 first-team all-conference selections, and 30 USF players have been selected in the NFL Draft. USF has made 10 bowl game appearances (going 6-4 in those games) and posted a program-record six-straight from 2005-2010. The Bulls most recently made four straight bowl appearances from 2015-18 and posted back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2016 and 2017, logging a program-record 11-2 mark in 2016 while finishing both seasons ranked in the Top 25. USF spent a program-record 20-straight weeks ranked in the Top 25 during the 2016 and 2017 seasons and reached as high as No. 2 in the national rankings during the 2007 season.
