BY LYNN LESSELL Have you worried about having the right insurance, what doctors are in your plan and how much it is going to cost you? My struggle with IBS, incapacitating pain and numbness, and chronic fatigue had me asking all of those questions. Every doctor or emergency room visit ended with the same statement, “you’re the healthiest patient we’ve seen today!” and a big bill. What!? No guidance, no solution…nothing? Recommendations were made for neck surgery and gallbladder removal but my gut told me those were not the answers for me. It seemed like no one was listening to the details of what I was actually experiencing and since there was no ‘quick fix’remedy for my ailment, I am healthy? So, I decided to listen to my gut and learn how to listen to all the specifics of what I was experiencing and I discovered many things, the most important thing was to alleviate daily stress. Stress can be the beginning of many conditions. The first step to alleviating stress is self-care. Self-care is not selfish. When you are on an airplane, one of the first things you are told is, “in case of an emergency put your oxygen mask on first so you are able to help others”. Shouldn’t we practice this every day? Daily stress doesn’t have to be a routine. Start making “ME” Monday, your Monday. What something special will you do for yourself today?
