Florida heads to Jacksonville with 36 entries, with the men boasting 19 while the women have 17.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gators track and field teams are back in action this week as they travel to Jacksonville, Florida, for this year’s NCAA East Preliminary, which is the qualifying meet for the 2021 NCAA Outdoor Championships. Competition is set to take place Wednesday through Saturday at the University of North Florida.
The top 48 individual and top 24 relay declarations within the East and West Regions earned berths to their respective preliminary meet, and only 12 from each regional competition will advance to the championship meet in Eugene, Oregon, slated for June 9-12.
The Gators head to Jacksonville with a combined total of 36 entries, including a pair of No. 1 seeds.
Four-time combined SEC champion Thomas Mardal will look to punch his ticket to Eugene Wednesday. The 2021 NCAA Indoor champion leads the NCAA in the hammer throw, having successfully defended his 2019 conference title earlier this month in Bryan-College Station, Texas, at this year’s SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
On the women’s side, Florida’s 4×400-meter relays team is the No. 1 seed. The Gators finished second at SEC Outdoors with a team formed by Taylor Manson, Sterling Lester, Doneisha Anderson and Talitha Diggs.
Including the two No. 1 seeds, the Gators have a combined 15 top-5 entries among its total 36, with them men’s team holding seven while the women boast eight.
