VISIT OUR WEBSITEA Message From Our PresidentMay 2nd -8th is Small Business Week! We celebrate and recognize small businesses in our community by recognizing their outstanding service and innovation. As you know small businesses are the backbone of our economy accounting for half of America’s workforce and 50% of GDP. More new jobs come from small business than any other source. We used this time to meet with some of our members, hear their stories and then used our social platforms to promote them. Please join us in making a special effort to support our small business community this week, and of course, in the future. Florida’s legislative session is completed except a special session about gambling in the state. Two of the items from the Chamber’s 2021 Legislative Agenda were passed and signed by the Governor. First was the COVID Liability Act which shields businesses from liability that adhered to government guidelines from lawsuits related to COVID. In addition, Florida is now going to be collecting tax revenue from internet sales, which puts local businesses on equal footing with internet sellers and will ultimately it will trigger a reduction in Florida’s commercial rent tax.We had a multi Chamber event to assist local businesses in ascertaining whether they were eligible for additional CARES Act dollars. In addition, the Chamber provided information from the SBA in regard to the Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF). One of the biggest issues that I am hearing from business owners is the difficulty they are having finding qualified talent and employees. This Friday, the Chamber’s Government/Community Relations Committee is hosting a round table discussion on workforce development. Our guest speakers are Representative Dan Daley, Representative Christine Hunschofsky and Dr. Mildred Coyne, Senior VP of Workforce Development for Broward College. We are proud to provide a platform where the business leaders can interact directors with their legislators and decision makers on the matters that impact their business. Please Like us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn and check our website for up to date calendar information. Please read “What’s Happening” on Monday mornings for a full list of Chamber happenings for the next two weeks.
