The freshman is the third Gators golfer to be named to an Arnold Palmer Cup team.
ORLANDO, Fla. – Joe Pagdin has been selected as a member of Team International in the upcoming 2021 Arnold Palmer Cup, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Tuesday in conjunction with the Golf Channel.
The Sheffield, England native continues an elite freshman campaign, recording three top-10 finishes in his last four tournaments, including a career-best tie for fifth at the Calusa Cup. Most recently, Pagdin paced the Gators at the SEC Championship. Turning in the best scorecard over three days of competition, the freshman finished his first postseason tournament in a tie for 7th.
This selection is the latest in a string of accolades for the young Gator. On April 16th, the R&A announced that Pagdin would serve as the second travelling reserve for the Great Britain and Ireland team at the 2021 Walker Cup.
Pagdin will join fellow Gators teammate Yuxin Lin and head coach J.C. Deacon on Team International. The trio will see a familiar face during competition, as Ricky Castillo will return to the field as a member of the United States squad.
Lin and Castillo were tabbed initial committee selections in March, while Deacon was named the head coach of the international side back in September.
The Arnold Palmer Cup was co-founded by Arnold Palmer and the GCAA in 1997. A Ryder Cup-style tournament, the event features the top men’s and women’s collegiate golfers. Co-ed since 2018, it is one of the only events in the sport of golf that features men and women competing side-by-side.
