Freshman Melanie Green tied for fourth individually as the Bulls finished sixth.
PINEHURST, N.C. (April 20, 2021) – The USF Bulls conclude their 2021 season on Tuesday at the American Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championship with a sixth-place finish. Freshman Melanie Green (Medina, N.Y.) paced the Bulls, tying for fourth individually.
Playing at Pinehurst No. 6, USF tallied scores of 301, 303 and 301 to finish sixth in the 10-team championship field at 905. Tulsa won the AAC Championship with a team score of 888. After placing fifth in the last conference championship (2019), the Bulls have recorded a top-six finish in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2015 and 2016.
Green finished just five strokes off the pace of the individual medalist at four-over-par 220. The freshman carded even par (72) in round one on Sunday, and shot 73 (+1) on Monday to enter the final round just one shot off the lead. Green closed her outing with a 75 (+3) to tie for fourth, turning in the highest individual finish for a Bull since Nicole Autrique tied for third in 2016.
The AAC Championship marked the second top-10 finish for Green in her freshman campaign.
Shelby Brauckmuller (Auburndale) concluded her collegiate career by tying for 19th individually. The senior posted rounds of 74, 78 and 76 to finish 12-over-par 228. Brauckmuller carded 34 pars and six birdies over the 54-hole event.
Erika Smith (Orlando) rebounded strongly from an opening round 81, carding scores of 75 and 73 over the final two rounds to place 24th individually. Tuesday’s final round of 73 matched her season best. Smith finished right behind Brauckmuller with a score of 229, and tied her teammate with 34 pars and six birdies.
Jessica Whitting (Perth, Australia) and Ashley Zagers (Oldsmar) each tied for 30th on the individual leaderboard with final scores of 234.
USF recorded four top-10 finishes in five tournaments this season and posted its third-lowest overall score to conclude the year at the AAC Championship.

USF is among the fastest rising programs in the country, as they climbed 75 spots in the national Golfstat rankings following Brennan’s first season. The Bulls won two tournaments in 2018-19 and set several program records, including season scoring average (293.43) and team rounds of par or better (6), and in 2019-20 the Bulls posted a wire-to-wire win at the Old Friends Invitational, marking the program’s third tournament title since spring 2019.
