BIRMINGHAM –UAB looks to win its third league title this week as the Conference USA Championship commences on Tuesday morning when the Blazers take on WKU at 11 a.m.
UAB LATELY
The Blazers (8-5-1, 3-3-0 C-USA) are the No. 4 seed in the West. UAB clinched their spot on the final match of the regular season when they defeated Louisiana Tech 3-1 on April 10.
WKU LATELY
The Lady Toppers (7-1-2, 4-0-2 C-USA) are the No. 1 seed in the East. WKU has not lost since a 4-1 setback at North Alabama on Feb. 6, a span of nine matches in which it is 7-0-2. The Lady Toppers were the only team without a loss in C-USA play this season.
THE SERIES VS. WKU
Tuesday’s match is the seventh between the two squads. WKU hold a 3-2-1 edge over UAB. This is the first time the teams have met in the Conference USA Championship.
C-USA CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
This will mark UAB’s 16th appearance in the Conference USA Championship. The Blazers had been crowned champions twice – in 2004 and in 2006.
SCHOLARS AND BALLERS
Stella Kiss, Lexxe Lipsey and Audria Wood all earned spots on the C-USA Women’s Soccer All-Academic First Team. The marks only the second time in program history that three UAB student-athletes have made the first team.
ALL CONFERENCE
Kiss and Lipsey were named Second Team All-Conference and Laura Zemberyova earned a spot on the All-Freshman team.
