MEMPHIS – Tanya Boychuk scored once and added an assist as No. 22 Memphis defeated UAB 3-0 on Thursday night in the 2021 spring season opener.
Boychuk set up the Tigers’ first goal by Lisa Pechersky in the 26th minute and added an insurance goal in the 49th. Grace Stordy scored Memphis’ second goal in the 42nd minute.
The Blazers’ (1-2-0) best chance to score was in the 61st minute when Jessica Wheeler’s shot from 20 yards out went over the crossbar. Wheeler, Stella Kiss and Laura Zemberyova each tallied shots for UAB.
Eve Beyer made five saves for the Blazers. The UAB defense held AAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Clarissa Larisey without a shot in 78 minutes of play.
UAB’s home opener will be on Sunday afternoon when they host Mercer at BBVA Field. Kickoff is at 3 p.m.

- Kiss, Beyer, Audria Wood, Kassandra Daniel and Erika Manfre all played 90 minutes
