TAMPA (Jan. 18, 2021) – University of South Florida women’s basketball standout Elisa Pinzan has been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 17, the conference announced Monday. The honor marks Pinzan’s second AAC Player of the Week award of her career, all coming this season.
A senior point guard from Murano, Italy, Pinzan helped to guide the Bulls to victory in their lone game of the week, a 72-53 victory at Tulane on Jan. 13. The win improves USF to 10-1 overall and 7-0 in The American and extends their winning streak to a program record-tying nine games.
Pinzan poured in a game-high 22 points – one off her career-high – on 7-for-17 shooting from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. She also dished out seven assists, had a career-high six steals, and grabbed three rebounds in just over 38 minutes of action. Her seven assists marked the 18th time that Pinzan has handed out seven or more assists in her career, the sixth of the season, and the fourth straight game.
On the year, Pinzan is fifth on the team in scoring, averaging 9.5 points per game, along with handing out 7.2 assists per game, which is first in the AAC and third in Division I. In addition, she also tops in The American, and is third nationally, in assist/turnover ratio (4.65) and total assists (79).
USF returns to action on Wednesday, when it travels to America’s Heartland to face Wichita State at 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). The meeting with the Shockers is part of a two-game road trip that ends in Greenville, N.C. on Saturday as the Bulls face East Carolina at 1 p.m. (ESPN+).

USF notched its ninth consecutive 19-win season and was poised for its ninth straight postseason appearance in 2019-20 before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the end of the college basketball season. The Bulls celebrated two all-conference honorees in Elena Tsineke and Elisa Pinzan. Tsineke was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, in addition to The American All-Freshman Team and Third Team All-Conference; while Pinzan was named a Third Team All-Conference selection.
USF has made 15 postseason tournament appearances and had six NCAA Tournament berths in head coach Jose Fernandez’s 20 seasons. The all-time winningest coach in program history, Fernandez has guided USF to nine 20-win seasons, two WNIT final four appearances, the 2009 WNIT championship and won more than 350 games.
