Pair of Gator Gymnasts Claim SEC Weekly Honors

Reed shares the SEC Specialist Gymnast of the Week honor with Alabama’s Makarri Doggette. This is Reed’s first such honor of her Gator career.

Thomas is starting 2021 just as she left 2020 – as the SEC Gymnast of the Week.

Dating back to the 2020 campaign, this is Thomas’ eighth consecutive SEC Gymnast of the Week honor. She’s claimed 12 SEC Gymnast of the Week honors in her career.

Nya Reed – SEC Specialist of the Week:

*       Competed in two events in season opener at Auburn, posting two 9.90 or better marks.

     *   Vault – 9.90 shared second with teammate Megan Skaggs and Ellie Lazzari. Score equals Reed’s collegiate best. That mark ties for third in 2021 national standings.
     *   Floor – 9.925 shared second overall with AU’s Derrian Gobourne. Tied for fourth in 2021 national standings.

*       One of seven gymnasts currently among nation’s top 4 on two events – vault (No. T3) and floor (No. T4).

Thomas – SEC Gymnast of the Week:

*       Won at least a share of four event titles in season opener at Auburn

     *   Vault – 9.975 set her collegiate best and is nation’s top vault mark of 2021.
     *   Beam – 9.95 shared title with freshman teammate Ellie Lazzari. Nation’s top beam mark of 2021. Eighth beam title of career.
     *   Floor – 9.95 claimed 18th floor win of Gator career.
     *   All-Around – 39.75 claimed 15th all-around win of collegiate career. Nation’s high for 2021 and sets Florida record for season opening all-around total.
