After being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ryder Cup-style event is set to tee off Monday.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Arnold Palmer Cup, an annual event featuring the top men’s and women’s college golfers, is slated to begin Monday and will include three Florida Gators – Addie Baggarly, Ricky Castillo and Yuxin Lin.
Addie Baggarly, who became the first women’s golfer in program history to be selected as a competitor in the Arnold Palmer Cup, will represent the United States alongside fellow Gator Ricky Castillo, while Yuxin Lin will compete for the International Team.
Upon selection, Baggarly was coming off a junior season that included three top-10 finishes and a No. 36 ranking on Golfstat after accumulating a 72.19 scoring average over 21 rounds played, accolades that warranted a 2020 Second Team All-SEC selection.
Castillo touts one of the best freshman seasons in Florida history, finishing inside the top 25 individually in all seven competitions. The California native was named the 2020 NCAA Division I Phil Mickelson Outstanding Freshman Award, as well as the 2020 SEC Freshman of the Year. He joined Matt Every as the only two Gators to be named Ben Hogan Award Finalists.
Yuxin Lin, who announced his decision to transfer from the University of Southern California in December and join the Gators program, will compete for the International Team at the Arnold Palmer Cup as a native of Beijing, China. Lin completed his first season of collegiate golf with a team-best four top-15 finishes and co-led the Trojans squad with a 70.67 stroke average. He was tabbed a 2020 GCAA Third Team All-American and earned All-West Region honors.
The Arnold Palmer Cup was originally scheduled for July 3-5 at the Lahinch Golf Club in Lahinch, Ireland before the COVID-19 pandemic altered previously scheduled travel. In April, it was announced that the event would continue in December at the inaugural site of competition, Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge.
The three-day event tees off Monday morning in mixed fourball matches.
