Gators stay put in the final CSCAA poll of 2020.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida men’s swimming and diving team remained ranked No. 5 in the final College Swimming and Diving Coaches of America Association (CSCAA) top 25 poll of 2020.
The Gators stayed put in the fifth slot with 300 points thanks to a 521-426 victory against the Auburn Tigers at the Auburn Invitational last month. Over three days, Florida won 18 events and posted four new top 10 program swims as well seven times that landed in the top 10 across the NCAA, highlighted by A-cut efforts by Robert Finke (1,650 free) and Kieran Smith (500 free).
Eric Friese (50 free), Smith (200 IM) and Adam Chaney (50 free) all rewrote Florida’s record books with their winning swims in Auburn. The relay of Chaney, Friese, Smith and Will Davis started out the competition on the right foot, combining for the tenth-fastest 200 free time in school history on the first night at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center.
Prior to the three days of competition at Auburn, Florida competed at the 2020 U.S. Open at Sarasota, reeling in eight medals, seven new LCM personal-bests and 20 trial cuts after three days of swimming. Event titles by Kieran Smith (200 and 400 free) and Robert Finke (1,500 free) highlighted Florida’s three-day stay in Sarasota. Seven Gator representatives notched multiple U.S. Olympic Trial cuts as well.
Florida will hold the fifth spot for the second-straight poll after beginning the season at No. 3 in the nation in the preseason 2020-21 top 25, which was the highest ranking for the program since the final poll in 2019. Last year, the team was slotted at No. 11 in the last installment in the CSCAA poll.
