Top-Ranked Lynn Women’s Tennis Caps 2019 Regular Season Undefeated

Daytona Beach, Fla. – For the first time since 2009, the Lynn University women’s tennis team completed a perfect regular season as the Fighting Knights dropped 43rd-ranked Embry-Riddle in Sunshine State Conference action on Monday, 6-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

·         The Fighting Knights dominated doubles play, winning all three bouts by scores of 6-2 or better. Eliska Petrackova and Anastacia Parkin made a debut appearance as a pair at No. 2 doubles, winning 6-0.

·         Ulyana Grib and Leolia Jeanjean swept the top flight while Eleonora Liga and Gioriga PIgato won at No. 3, 6-2.

·         Grib and Federica Mordegan persevered through tiebreakers for straight-set wins at the top-two singles flights, with Grib winning 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, and Mordegan winning in a marathon, 6-3, 7-6 (14-12).

·         Liga (6-2, 6-2) and Pigato (7-5, 6-4) logged straight-set wins at the third and fifth flights, respectively.

·         Petrackova won in three sets at No. 4, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

·         The Eagles claimed their lone point with a victory at No. 6 singles.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

·         Lynn closes out the 2019 regular season undefeated, going 10-0 in league play and 19-0 overall.

·         The 2009 campaign was the last time Lynn was perfect through the regular season. That year, Lynn won its first 28 matches of the year before falling in the NCAA National Championship final.

·         In 2011, Lynn was a perfect 8-0 in league play, with the team’s only loss during the regular season coming to NCAA Division III’s top-ranked Amherst with Lynn missing two starters.

·         Jeanjean was pulled from the singles lineup at the top spot.

UP NEXT:

The Fighting Knights will take the No. 1 seed into the SSC Championships, slated to begin on Friday, April 26, in Bradenton, Fla.
