MIAMI (Oct. 28, 2020) – FIU football’s Bryce Singleton was named a nominee for the Wuerffel Trophy on Wednesday, joining a distinguished list for the national honor.
The Wuerffel Trophy, known as “College Football’s Premier Award for Community Service,” is presented each February in Fort Walton Beach. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Playing in his first game since Dec. 21, 2018, after missing all of 2019 due to injury, Singleton caught a touchdown pass against Liberty on Sept. 26, 2020. The Hilton Head, South Carolina native has started in every game for the Panthers at wideout and leads FIU in catches and receiving yards.
Singleton has proven he’s more than just a football player, as the redshirt junior has volunteered his time with FIU’s Relay for Life and the Roarthon. The Relay for Life benefits the American Cancer Society, while the Roarthon is a dance marathon that raises money for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation, a fundraising arm of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
Singleton has also excelled in the classroom, with the Recreation and Sports Management major earning a 3.11 GPA.
