Moorespeed and Riley Dickinson Return to VIRginia International Raceway (VIR) this Weekend for IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup USA by Yokohama Doubleheader

Hill Country Region of the Porsche Club of America Debuts as Riley Dickinson and Moorespeed Partner Supporter at VIR

DANVILLE, Virginia (August 19, 2020) – Moorespeed and Riley Dickinson return to VIRginia International Raceway for IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup USA by Yokohama Rounds 3 and 4 this weekend in the No. 53 Moorespeed Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.
The VIR weekend’s first 45-minute IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup race goes green this Saturday, August 22, at 5:10 p.m. EDT. Round 2 is scheduled for Sunday, August 23, at 11:45 a.m. EDT. Both races stream live on IMSA.com/TVLive with live commentary covering practice and qualifying throughout the weekend on IMSARadio.com.

Dickinson and the Moorespeed crew arrived early at VIR and put in a productive test recently on the 3.27-mile road course.

“I’m really looking forward to going back racing at VIR this weekend in our Moorespeed Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car,” Dickinson said. “We just finished up a quick, one-day test in preparation for the event and we are pretty happy with where we ended up.”

Moorespeed and Dickinson are in their second year of IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup competition in what will be an all-out championship bid in the top-tier Platinum Cup division. The campaign has a new supporter heading into VIR, and the Moorespeed team’s No. 53 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup will display prominently on the hood the logo for the Hill Country Region of the Porsche Club of America.

Funding is being raised through a raffle that awards three lucky Hill Country members a full day of driver coaching with Dickinson, with 100% of the proceeds donated to the 18-year-old driver to defray racing fuel and tire costs and other expenses.

“We are proud to announce a new partnership with the Hill Country Region of the Porsche Club of America in support of Riley,” Moorespeed President David Moore said. “We are both Hill Country members and Moorespeed has been a longtime supporter. The Hill Country Region of the Porsche Club of America is headquartered in Moorespeed’s hometown of Austin, Texas, and is a great group of Porsche owners and enthusiasts as well as our biggest fans. We are very proud to carry their logo on the No. 53 Moorespeed Porsche 911 GT3 Cup at VIR. To the lucky members who end up getting Riley as a coach for a day, I guarantee you’ll have a great time and learn a lot from a very experienced young man who is a natural born teacher.”

Dickinson won the second and final race of the season-opening IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup doubleheader three weeks ago at Road America. After finishing second in Saturday’s first race of 2020, Dickinson kept the pressure on to the finish and it paid off for the victory in the Sunday finale.
“After the Road America race weekend, there was a lot for us to learn from and improve upon,” Dickinson said. “We quickly were able to pinpoint key areas to adjust and then immediately turned our focus toward VIR.”

Thorough post-race debriefs are a main part of Moorespeed’s driver development program.

“After returning home from Road America, we sat down at the workshop on Tuesday to debrief the entire race weekend, and right after began focusing on what we need to do better in preparation for VIR,” Moore said. “Lots of data and video review from the last few years and this week we finished a highly successful test at VIR itself. We have good pace and look forward to the race. We know what we need to do for this week and will do our best to execute and complete our goal of winning.”

Last year at VIR, Dickinson rallied from deep in the field for a podium finish.
“We had a great result to cap off the weekend in Race 2 last year at VIR,” Dickinson said. “It was probably the most fun I’ve had in a car yet, going from 13th to third to hit the podium.”

Noteworthy

– Moorespeed and Dickinson used the iRacing craze that emerged early in the COVID-19 racing pause to begin their preparations for VIR. “For VIR, the prep work before the season rebooted after all the shutdowns was a solid week of racing on virtual VIR with the Cup guys in the iRacing ACI Motorsports/Apex series and with the WeatherTech guys in the IMSA iRacing Pro Invitational at VIR,” Moore said.
