JACKSONVILLE – The Jaguars released quarterback Blake Bortles Wednesday.
Bortles, the No. 3 overall selection by the Jaguars in the 2014 NFL Draft, was released early Wednesday evening – shortly after the team announced it had agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent quarterback Nick Foles.
The news came hours after the start of the 2019 NFL League Year, the official opening of the league’s 2019 free-agency period.
Bortles, who started from Week 4 of his 2014 rookie season through Week 12 of the 2018 season, went 24-49 as a starter and threw for 17,646 yards and 103 touchdowns with 75 interceptions. He threw for 2,718 yards with 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions this past season.
Bortles quarterbacked the Jaguars to 10-6 regular season record in 2017, leading the team to the AFC South title and an appearance in the AFC Championship Game.
