FIU Football News: Trio of Panthers Ink Deals Following Successful NFL Draft for FIU

MIAMI (April 26, 2020) – FIU’s Isaiah BrownAnthony Jones and Teair Tart will continue their football careers in the NFL as the trio inked deals with teams following the NFL Draft.

Brown will join James Morgan in the AFC East as the former defensive back signed with the Buffalo Bills, while Jones inked with the Seattle Seahawks and Tart signed with the Tennessee Titans.

Brown played four productive seasons in the defensive secondary for the Panthers, as he started over 20 times for FIU during his collegiate career. The Tampa, Florida native’s senior season was his most productive however, as he played and started in 12 games for the Panthers, collected 44 tackles and had seven pass breakups. The corner’s biggest game in 2019 came in the 30-24 win over the Miami Hurricanes, as Brown earned seven tackles.

Jones led the Panthers in rushing with nearly 900 yards in 2019, while finding the end zone nine times. Jones had four games over the century mark, including a streak of three-straight during the year. The highlight on the year for Jones came in the win over Charlotte, as the back rushed for 117 yards and scored four total touchdowns. The four-touchdown game tied FIU’s record for most scores in a single-game.

In only two seasons with the Panthers, Tart made his presence felt on the defensive line as the big man led FIU in tackles-for-loss in back-to-back years. Tart racked up 19 tackles-for-loss during his two seasons with FIU, while getting to the quarterback six times. Tart posted a career-high eight tackles against Marshall this past season, while also earning a pair of tackles-for-loss.

In addition to the three signees, FIU had two players selected in the NFL Draft on Saturday. James Morgan was drafted by the New York Jets with the 125th pick of the fourth round, while Stantley Thomas-Oliver III was selected by the Carolina Panthers with the 221st pick in the seventh round. FIU had multiple players taken in the NFL Draft for just the third time and first since 2013.
