JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to terms with former Pro Bowl TE Tyler Eifert (pronounced EYE-fert) on a two-year contract, the club announced today.
“Tyler is a proven contributor in this league, and we’re excited to add him to our team,” said Head Coach Doug Marrone. “He has shown the ability to be a playmaker in the passing game, especially in the red zone, while also adding immense value as a blocker in the run game. I expect him to make us more efficient and productive on the offensive side of the ball, and after speaking with Tyler, I know he’s eager for this opportunity.”
Eifert, 6-6, 255, has played in 59 games with 37 starts during his seven seasons in Cincinnati, where he was originally drafted in the first round (21st overall) in 2013. His career totals include 185 receptions for 2,152 yards and 24 TDs. In 2019, the Fort Wayne, Ind. native played in all 16 games and caught 43 passes for 436 yards and three TDs. Since entering the NFL in 2013, Eifert is the only tight end with at least 20 TDs and fewer than 60 games played.
Eifert posted career-high numbers in 2015 while also receiving the team’s Ed Block Courage Award nomination. That season, he tallied 52 receptions for 615 yards and 13 TDs in 13 games played en route to his first career Pro Bowl selection. His 13 TDs were second-most in the NFL in 2015.
Prior to his professional career, Eifert competed collegiately at Notre Dame for four seasons (2009-12) and started every game as a junior and senior. He earned the John Mackey Award, given annually to the nation’s top tight end, and earned All-American honors in 2012. Eifert attended Bishop Dwenger (Fort Wayne, Ind.) High School, where he starred offensively (41 catches for 682 yards and 10 TDs) and defensively (97 tackles and four INTs) as a senior.
He and his fiancé, Rachael, have three dogs: Jameson, Tank and Arya. His father, Greg, and brother, Grady, both played college basketball at Purdue University.
