Lynchburg, VA – (Feb. 23, 2019) – The Florida Atlantic. University men’s swimming and diving team made history on the final night of the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Swimming & Diving Championships. Since the first day of competition, the Owls maintained their spot in second place and make it affiliated on championship finish in over a decade. Josh Fountain also broke the school record in the 1650-yard freestyle.
Notables:
Freshman Michael Cannatelli added to his medal count on the weekend, claiming the gold medal on the platform with a lifetime best score of 293.65
Fountain broke the school record in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:23.58 to claim the silver medal. Will smith followed behind him with another personal best (15:32.11) to claim bronze. Jack Shapiro touched the wall fourth (15:46.66) and Shawn String captured seventh (16:11.62)
In the 200-yard backstroke, Reilly McGuire finished fifth (1:49.69) followed by Alex Taber in sixth (1:49.77) and Calvin Lille in eighth (1:51.12)
Colin Kozak added another top-five finish on the weekend with fourth place in the 100-yard freestyle (45.43) with Connor Smoak following him in sixth (45.43)
Phillip Crouch tied his personal-best time in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:04.97) to claim fifth
Michael Rahrig and Connor Hodges cracked the top-10 in the 200-yard butterfly with Rahrig finishing eighth (1:52.18) and Hodges rounding out in ninth (1:52.21)
The men’s team wrapped up the weekend with a bronze medal in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Kozak, Jack Newley, Maguire and Smoak were behind the 3:02.50 finish
