CARY, N.C. – The tenth seeded University of Miami women’s tennis team (10-12, 4-8 ACC) earned the 4-2 win over the No. 15-seeded Virginia Tech Hokies (13-12, 2-10 ACC) on Wednesday afternoon at the Cary Tennis Park.
The Hurricanes secured the doubles point and claimed three courts for the victory.
On court one, No. 48 Alexa Noel and Raquel Gonzalez took the 6-3 win over Arina Gamretkaia and Tara Gorinsek, before the Hokies answered with a 6-4 win from Mila Mulready and Linda Ziets Segura on court three. Down to court two, Jaquelyn Ogunwale and Aely Arai prevailed over Charlotte Cartledge and Ozlem Uslu, 6-3, to secure the opening point.
Noel, ranked No. 14, dominated No. 47 Ozlem Uslu at the top court, 6-0, 6-1, with a match time of only an hour. Virginia Tech then earned back-to-back points when Gorinsek defeated Ogunwale, 6-4, 6-1, on court two, and Arina Gamretkaia secured the 6-4, 7-6 (2) win over Vargas at the No. 5 spot.
The Hurricanes answered with two consecutive courts as Arai grabbed the 6-4, 6-3 win over Laima Frosch on court four and No. 107 Gonzalez clinched it with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Aksu on court three.
Miami will face No. 7-seeded Stanford tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. in the third round of the ACC Championships.
