BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic’s Millie-Mae Matthews has been named the American Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the AAC on Tuesday.Millie-Mae Matthews Player of the Week 2/25The senior from Nottingham, England has been instrumental in the program’s climb to No. 22 nationally, the highest ranking in program history. Last week, Matthews led the Owls to two wins including one over in-state foe UCF, ranked No. 20 nationally. Both teams entered the match with perfect records. At the end of the night, FAU remained undefeated at 6-0. It was just the fifth victory for FAU over UCF in 27 meetings. Matthews won her court and clinched the match for the Owls after more than three hours and 30 minutes of work, including q tiebreaking doubles win alongside Victoria Gomez O’Hayon that was crucial in the Owls 4-2 win. Matthews is 4-0 in dual match singles play and 4-1dual doubles.
Matthews is the second Owl to earn recognition by the AAC in 2025. Fellow senior Lexi Silna received the honor back on Jan. 21, 2025.
