WTEN: Hurricanes Earn Back-to-Back Victories Over Musketeers

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (4-5, 1-1 ACC) earned another win over the Xavier Musketeers (5-8, 0-1 Big East), 6-1, on Monday night at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center for the final match of the day.

The Hurricanes secured a hard-fought doubles point for the lead going into singles action, followed by xx wins for the second team victory.

Jaquelyn Ogunwale and Aely Arai took another impressive 6-1 win over Emily Flowers and Sofia Mazzucato on court three, before Raquel Gonzalez and Xinyi Nong clinched the doubles point, 7-5, over No. 26 Abby Nugent and Clara Owen at the top court for two straight ranked wins.

Following a two and a half hour weather delay, the singles courts played out on only four courts and took the court in order. Noel finished first with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Nugent at the top court, before Gonzalez grabbed another 6-0, 6-3 victory against Rexroat on court three. Nong then clinched the match for Miami after a 6-1, 6-2 win against Smitek. As the match played out, Ogunwale secured the 6-2, 6-4 win over Pendergast, while the Musketeers earned a point following a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 [10-6] win from Flowers over Arai. Volosova then got the 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 [10-8] win over Siminski on court six.
