“ME” MondayTM 7-22-19
BY LYNN LESSELL
The truth is they are all connected so if you work to improve one, you can improve all. It seems like a large undertaking to fit time and energy into our daily schedule to work on just one of these areas.
Right? Wrong!
In an article published by Harvard Health, ‘Mindfulness refers to focusing your attention on what you are experiencing in the present moment without judging yourself.’
Learning to focus on myself without judgement, improved my emotional and physical health and well-being.
It wasn’t always that way. I used to obsess about having a better body image and losing weight. I can now definitely say I was judging myself! By judging myself, I inadvertently put emotional strain on many areas of my life which in turn created physical stresses that snowballed into other concerns.
When you are focused on challenges and fuel the stressors, the tension affects all the parts of ourselves we want to be great. Replacing self-judgment with mindfulness is the lesson to learn here.
Developing mindfulness is a part of implementing priority of self-care. Schedule time to do something mindful for yourself and start your week with a positive intention. It is essential for our physical and emotional well-being to be balanced so we can be our best self.
Yoga is an all-encompassing program that simplifies how to be in tune with your mind and body without judgment which can lead to:
Better body image– it’s about focusing inward with a positive intention not on your reflection in a mirror.
Heart Benefits– Yoga can help lower blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar.
Overall Fitness– A couple of yoga sessions a week can increase muscle strength and boost stamina which will help provide the energy you may be missing.
Mindful Eating– learn to be cognizant of how your body responds to foods.
Weight Control– being aware of how your body performs to be its best in all the above areas also helps change to a more positive relationship with food.
So, prioritize self-care.
